Pillar (formerly Apple Patch)
- Community Services / Non-Profit
Apple Patch seeks to improve the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through an array of support services that assists each person in achieving their highest potential and lead independent and productive lives.
The vision of Apple Patch is to continue to advance the ideal that all persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities be allowed the opportunity to personally succeed through the utilization of cutting edge support services that exceed industry standards.
In 1988, a group of parents dreamed of a place where their adult children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) could live and work independently in a safe, loving environment. In response to the ever-increasing demand for quality residential options, these parents created Apple Patch, a nonprofit organization dedicated to accomplishing this dream.
Originally, Apple Patch had plans to develop an exclusive community that would provide residential options to individuals with IDD only, but plans for this development halted in response to the dynamic changes in the delivery of services for these individuals. After much research, it was discovered that an inclusive living arrangement in the general community is considered best practices in the field of IDD. In response to this shift, the Apple Patch Board of Directors approved a new, exciting direction for the organization.
This concept is not only unique to Kentucky, but on the leading edge of new methods of supports for individuals with IDD in the nation.
